Seeded 3rd in the section, Eden Prairie (14-9-2) will make their 11th State Tournament appearance.
5th-seeded Holy Family (14-9-1) was hoping one more step in their Cinderella run could deliver the program's first-ever State trip. Holy Family upset top-seed and state #2-ranked Minnetonka in the Section Semifinals on Saturday to earn their date with Eden Prairie.
Playing on the Mariucci Arena surface he'll skate on as a future Minnesota Gopher, Jensen opened the scoring 11:03 into the game, then assisted on Drew Holt's goal 1:37 later that staked Eden Prairie out to a 2-0 lead.
Holy Family quickly responded with Sawyer Schugel's goal with 3:34 left in the first to make it a 2-1 Eden Prairie lead.
Neither team scored in the second and for much of the third as EP goalie Axel Rosenlund and Holy Family's Bailey Huber stood tall.
Rosenlund made 18 saves for the win while Huber turned aside 29 for the Fire.
After a timeout late in regulation, Holy Family had their best scoring chance in the final two periods. The puck pinballed from one side of the Eden Prairie crease to the other as the referee waved his arms furiously to indicate the puck never crossed the goal line.
Eden Prairie finally grabbed possession of the puck and Carter Batchelder flung it nearly the entire length of the ice for the game-clinching empty-netter.
Eden Prairie will open the Class AA State Tournament on Thursday at the Xcel Energy Center.
