Defending champs Eastview move on to 4A semifinals in girls basketball

Defending Class AAAA champ Eastview played tough defense all day in a 48-38 decision over Forest Lake in a quarterfinal game at Williams Arena.

The Lightning (25-5), who never trailed in the game, grabbed a 24-13 halftime advantage and kept the Rangers (24-6) at least eight points apart the rest of the way.

As a result, Eastview will face Stillwater in a semifinal game at Williams on March 14 at 8:00 p.m. Senior guard Macy Guebert scored 15 points and junior forward Brynn Schwanz added 14 to lead the Lightning offensive attack. Guebert also had a game high three steals. Sophomore guard Cassidy Carson topped all rebounders with 11. Senior guard Abigail Groeneweg led Forest Lake with 13 points. 

The Lightning kept an opponent under 40 points for the 10th time this season, holding the Rangers to 30 per cent shooting percentage from the field. Forest Lake will face Shakopee in a consolation game at Gangelhoff Center at Concordia University on March 14 at 12:00 p.m.
