Apple Valley native and freshman Duke point guard Tre Jones made the call on Tuesday to come home, not knowing how destructive tropical storm Florence would be. The Duke campus, which is located in Durham, North Carolina, canceled classes the last few days with heavy rain and wind expected.

KSTP's Darren 'Doogie' Wolfson caught up with Jones on Saturday afternoon before he heads back to Duke.

Jones said that the coaches gave the players the option to go home on Tuesday, not knowing the exact path that Florence would take. Duke didn't evacuate its campus, but as Jones said, "It's better to be safe than sorry."

Jones is expected to start for the Blue Devils with the hope he finishes his season at U.S. Bank Stadium in April at the Final Four. Duke is considered one of the preseason favorites.
