Defending champ Minnehaha Academy beats Lake City in state semifinals

March 22, 2019 09:54 PM

Minnehaha Academy (28-2) was dominant in virtually every category as they ran, dunked, shot and defended their way to a 82-52 Class AA semifinal victory over Lake City (27-3). This is the third consecutive year the Redhawks have been the No. 1-seeded in the AA tournament.

It was junior Jalen Suggs, 24 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists; and sophomore Chet Holmgren, 23 points and 11 rebounds at the forefront of the victory for Minnehaha Academy. They along with the two forwards; freshman Prince Aligbe, 15 points, and junior Kaden Johnson, 14 points accounted for all but six of the Redhawks offensive output

Lake City found the inside largely plugged by the seven-foot Holmgren, and only junior guard Reid Gastner, who delivered 21 points in the loss, had any answer for the pressure and presence of Minnehaha Academy.

The Redhawks will play for their third consecutive and fourth overall championship when they face the winner of Minneapolis North-Perham Saturday at 1pm.
