Coon Rapids/Andover wins Little League World Series opener

The Coon Rapids/Andover little league team defeated Bowling Green, Kentucky 2-1 in their first game of the 2019 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania on Friday afternoon.

Jameson Kuznia pitched 4.2 innings for Coon Rapids/Andover, allowing only two hits and the only run allowed was unearned.


The Midwest Regional champions scored both of their runs in the top of the second inning. Tyler Phillips had an RBI triple that scored Dylan Bloom to make it 1-0. Phillips later scored on a wild pitch to give them a 2-0 lead. Bowling Green scored their only run off an error in the third inning.

Coon Rapids/Andovers advances to the winners bracket quarterfinals and will play South Riding, Virginia (Southeast Regional winners) on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. The game will be televised on ESPN.
