Centennial moves on to state girls 4A semifinals with win over Maple Grove

Centennial stretches its winning streak to 18 games by pulling away in the second half for a 74-64 win over Maple Grove in a Class AAAA quarterfinal game at Williams Arena.

The Cougars (26-4) shot 50 percent from three point range to advance to a semifinal matchup against No. 1 Hopkins on Thursday, March 14 at Williams at 6:00 p.m.


The teams met on February 11 with Centennial winning, 56-40. This one was a tighter affair from the start. Senior guard Taylor McAulay scored a game high 22 points and senior center Sarah Lavell added 19 with four steals for the Cougars, who trailed early in the game but, thanks to shooting 55.6 percent from the field, led at halftime, 38-34.

For the game, Centennial came up with 10 steals and forced 17 Crimson turnovers. The Cougars also held a rebounding edge, 29-25. Junior guard Abby Schulte scored 17 to lead the way for Maple Grove (23-7). 

The Crimson will face Lakeville North in a consolation round game at Gangelhoff Center at Concordia University on March 14 at 10:00 a.m.
