Bueckers leads Hopkins past Centennial in Class 4A semifinals

Junior guard Paige Bueckers scored 17 of her game high 28 points in the first half as Hopkins advanced to the Class AAAA championship game for the fifth straight year with a 75-51 victory over Centennial at Williams Arena Thursday night. The Royals (30-0) will be playing in their fifth straight championship game. They will face the winner of the Stillwater-Eastview game at Williams on March 16 at 8:00 p.m.

The Cougars scored the first basket of the game. The Ponies replied by going on a 17-3 run to take charge early. By halftime, Stillwater led 38-23, had recorded 10 steals and forced their opponent into 21 turnovers. 

The Ponies continues to be aggressive in the second half, leading by as many as 28 points in the second half. In addition to her offense, Bueckers had five steals. Senior guard Dlayla Chakolis added 12 points and freshman center Maya Nnaji contributed 11. 

Senior center Sara Stapleton led Centennial (26-5) with 16 points. The Cougars will play the loser of the Eastview-Stillwater game at Gangelhoff Center at Concordia University on March 15 at 6:00 p.m.
