Brainerd shuts out White Bear Lake to reach the semi's of the Girls' State Hockey Tournament

Three seed Brainerd continued its post-holiday unbeaten run with a 4-0 win over White Bear Lake Area (13-13-3) on Thursday afternoon in the 2019 MSHSL Class AA quarterfinals at Xcel Energy Center.

The Warriors are now 18-2 since the December 18 and will play #2 Andover in the state semifinals on Friday, February 22 at 6 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center. Brainerd is making its second consecutive and second overall state tournament appearance, reaching the semifinals for the first time.

White Bear Lake Area last made the state tournament in 2002, finishing as state runner-up in its only prior appearance and will face Farmington in the consolation semifinals on Friday, February 22 at noon at TRIA Rink at Treasure Island in St. Paul.

The Warriors out-shot the Bears by 27, a 39-12 final shot margin. Brainerd senior goalie Olivia King registered the shutout, needing just 12 saves to complete the task with a strong defensive effort in front of her.

Senior forward Cheyenne Abear and junior forward Gabbie Smith each scored a goal and assisted on each other’s goals in the victory.

Bears senior goalie Calla Frank racked up 35 saves in the losing effort for White Bear Lake Area.
