Boys' State Basketball: Suggs Leads Minnehaha Academy Into 1A Championship Game

Minnehaha Academy cruised into a second consecutive championship berth with a 77-51 victory over St. Cloud Cathedral in the Class AA semifinals on Friday, March 23. Sophomore Jalen Suggs powered the top-seeded Redhawks with 25 points and nine rebounds, and sophomore guard Kaden Johnson added 15 more. 

Sophomore guard Terry Lockett chipped in 13 points and four rebounds in sending the Redhawks (27-4) into the Class AAA championship game for the third time since 2013 when they first emerged as a state champion.


Suggs scored 17 of his points in the first half when Minnehaha Academy built a 42-24 lead. Lockett had nine points in the first 18 minutes when the Redhawks shot 55.2 percent from the field. 

St. Cloud Cathedral (27-5), which lost in the semifinals for the second consecutive season, had 20 points and five rebounds from senior Mitchell Plombon and 16 from senior forward Michael Schaefer. 

Minnehaha Academy cooled off slightly from the field in the second half, but still outscored the Crusaders en route to another championship berth.
