Boudreau happy with Wild's effort despite lack of wins

The Minnesota Wild have only won once in their last six games, but it's not for a lack of effort according to Wild Head Coach Bruce Boudreau.

"We compete every night," Boudreau said after Monday's practice in St. Paul. "Even the game against Edmonton when we got boo'd off the ice, we out shot them 35-20. We had ample opportunities to score. We didn't get it done."

Despite the Wild's cool spell, they entered Monday night's NHL slate of games in the top wild card spot in the Western Conference. They have struggled at home, going just 3-6-2 in their last 11 games at Xcel Energy Center.

"I understand the fans' frustration. I understand our frustration, but effort is never something I'm worried about."

One bright spot lately is center Joel Eriksson Ek. He's scored goals in two of the last three games after being called up from Iowa. They need production from him with Mikko Koivu out for the season after suffering a torn ACL.

"(Eriksson Ek) and (Luke) Kunin have been our best players for the last week," Boudreau said. "We need that youthful exuberance, that youthful energy. They brought it for us, so hopefully they will continue to bring it to us."

The Wild (27-24-5) host the Philadelphia Flyers (25-23-7) Tuesday night at Xcel Energy Center.
