Augsburg University will become the first school in Minnesota to offer college women's wrestling as a varsity sport, the school officially announced Wednesday.
A release said the team will begin competition during the 2019-20 school year. Max Mejia will serve as head coach.
The release said the women's team would use the same facilities as the men's team at the school, which has won 13 Division III national titles, including one this past March.
Currently, 46 colleges and universities in the U.S. offer women's wrestling as a varsity sport. Fourteen more, counting Augsburg, plan to add it within the next two years.
