A Minnesota basketball legend gets a gym named after her

Hutchinson High School honored University of Minnesota women's basketball coach Lindsay Whalen by naming their gymnasium after her on Tuesday.

"When they told me about it I was very humbled and honored and surprised you could say as well," she said.

Whalen says she's been truly blessed throughout her life. 

"Great parents who raised us here and I'm really thankful and definitely blessed to be from here," Whalen said. 

It takes dedication and a relentless pursuit of greatness to leave Hutchinson to national prominence during her college career, to the WNBA and on to coaching her college alma mater. 

"It just shows that if you work hard and you really dedicate yourself to something that really good things can happen," she said.

She likes to consider herself as a role model for a younger generation.  

"I hope so... I think of someone who played at the U and then played in the WNBA to be an inspiration is really cool," she said.
