1-on-1 with Timberwolves' Gersson Rosas

New Timberwolves president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas plans on hitting the ground running. One of the first order of operations is hiring a head coach.

Ryan Saunders took over that job on an interim basis last season after Tom Thibodeau was let go. Rosas will keep his options open, but Saunders is very well thought-of within the organization and is likely the front-runner to land the full-time job.

"I've known Ryan a long time. He's done great work. The feedback from Glen (Taylor) and Becky has been very positive considering all the situations that's taken place," Rosas told KSTP sports director Joe Schmit on Monday. "Ryan and I are going to have serious conversations in terms of vision, next steps, how we do this together, how can we be aligned and collaboratively build this team out. To be fair to him, I want to hear his thoughts."

Rosas might be limited in how much of a makeover he can give the roster due to salary cap problems. Forward Andrew Wiggins will earn over $126 million over the next four years and has yet to play up to expectations.

"We're going to invest anything and everything to help Andrew Wiggins become the best player he can be," Gersson said in his 1-on-1 conversation with Joe Schmit. "We want him to be successful. I've spoken to him. He's motivated. To be fair to him, he's a young player.  Maturation takes time. It's a patient part of the process. I live with a guy in Houston - James Harden - who's unbelievable now at 29 years of age. Winning his MVP and doing great things. Maturation takes time. We want to make sure we're invested, he's invested, and then we get the best out of him."
