There’s a special place for members of the military when they travel through Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

It’s been serving those who serve our nation for more than 50 years.

The Armed Forces Service Center opened in 1971. The center is a home away from home for military members and their families at the airport.

Debra Cain is the executive director of the nonprofit run by volunteers.

"We want them to feel like we are their family when they are away from their families," Cain said.

Before the pandemic, the center was open around the clock every day of the year. Now some services have been scaled back and they have had to shorten their hours.

"We provide food, shelter and any assistance families need," Cain said.
