Petition to change Chicago Avenue to George Floyd Avenue is growing

A petition to rename Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis to George Floyd Avenue has a growing number of signatures.

As of Friday morning, the petition on Change.org has amassed over 11,500 signatures.

"We need justice, peace, and love as the cord of three strands that cannot be broken," the post reads, in part. Another petition on the site, directed at Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey, called Justice for George Floyd has over 16 million signatures. Change.org describes itself as "The world’s platform for change," and says it’s the biggest petition ever on the site.

Floyd died on Memorial Day after being taken into custody by police. Video that circulated following the death showed former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin with his knee on Floyd’s neck for nearly nine minutes.
