Burgers, malts and early rock and roll are always on the menu at a drive-in restaurant.

Many have fond memories of going to a drive-in. One with a long history is now back open in Saint Louis Park.

Clay’s Galaxy Drive-In on Highway 7 opened this summer after being closed for five years.

"I can’t tell you how many people have come up and said I was here 20, 30 years ago," new owner Mark Saliterman said.

The building originally opened in the early 1950’s as the Oak Hill Drive-In. Back then a burger cost 20 cents, a hot dog 10 cents and a Coke 5 cents. A few decades later it became Wagner’s Drive-In.

The drive-in of the past may be the wave of the future.

"This might end up being like the new norm," executive chef James Awe said. "Sit in restaurants are having a hard time getting folks in there. You might see more of this style of restaurant. Where there’s the car spots and the eating outside, so that way you can stay distance. You can stay safe because I don’t see this pandemic situation anytime soon."
