Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District race pits Republican incumbent Tom Emmer against newcomer Democrat Tawnja Zahradka.
The district zigzags across the map from Carver County to Washington County and up to Benton County. Historically, most of the district is red, which is why most political experts believe Emmer will easily get reelected.
Emmer serves on the House Financial Services Committee and is tightly identified with President Donald Trump.
The challenger, Zahradka, is a political newcomer. She is a former TV personality and Mrs. Minnesota. According to her biography, she has fought against sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace.
"One could describe the Sixth District as one of the more conservative districts in Minnesota, although some parts are starting to change," said Hamline University Political Science Professor David Schultz.
"It's becoming more like the northern Twin Cities, parts of it. Democrats are doing better there than they have in the past," Schultz added.
