Minnesota was an important place for John McCain.

It's where he reached the top of his political career at the 2008 Republican National Convention in Saint Paul.

Those who worked with McCain are feeling the loss of his passing, including Sen. Amy Klobuchar and former Congressman John Kline.

"John McCain was a hero, a hero in the military, a hero in his service in the Senate, and a hero in how he handled defeats," Klobuchar said.

"It was easy to like him but it was also easy to be very annoyed with him if he had dug in on something you were not happy with," Kline said.

Rick Harpham is a server at Kincaid's in St. Paul.

During the 2008 RNC, Harpham served McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin.

"I was impressed with him," Harpham said. "Cool guy. Our country is better for having him."
