Minnesota GOP Endorses Newberger, Housley for U.S. Senate

State Rep. Jim Newberger was endorsed by the Minnesota GOP to run against Sen. Amy Klobuchar. Along with Newberger, state Sen. Karin Housley was also endorsed for U.S. Senate.


Newberger won the endorsement Friday night at the Minnesota GOP state convention in Duluth. 

He took nearly 80 percent of the votes during the endorsement process, according to a release from the GOP.

Newberger serves as a state representative for the Becker area. 

"I'm humbled, honored and gracious to receive the endorsement," Newberger said in a statement. "I will do everything in my power to do what is needed to win this seat." 

Housley is running for her party's nod unopposed, as she was endorsed on the first ballot for the Senate seat resigned by Al Franken.
