Key 2020 election races are starting to take shape here in Minnesota.
In 2018, five U.S. House of Representatives races in Minnesota were targeted by the national parties and outside interest groups. Four of those five ended up being competitive and decided by six points or less.
One of those races was lost by former Congressman Jason Lewis, who lost to Rep. Angie Craig by six points in the 2nd District.Lewis told Chief Political Reporter Tom Hauser at Farmfest this week that he's likely to be a candidate in 2020. The question is whether he runs in a rematch with Rep. Craig or challenges Sen. Tina Smith in a U.S. Senate race.
"I'm looking at a lot of things and I think there is a sense that Minnesota is in play, certainly from the president's re-elect, and I think there is a sense that some folks in Minnesota feel forgotten, especially in Greater Minnesota," Lewis said. "That's why I'm out here as well, to talk to folks in rural Minnesota, which is really tough in some markets, in some towns and so somebody's got to speak up for those folks."
Democratic 7th district Congressman Collin Peterson was also at Farmfest. He won by four points in a heavily-Republican district and said he'll run again, but won't make it official for a few months.
