It took just 16 seconds for Republican Doug Wardlow to begin painting his Democratic opponents Keith Ellison as an "extremist."
"Mr. Ellison is a radical Washington politician who wants to push a radical policy agenda through the courts," Wardlow said in his opening statement of a debate televised live statewide Sunday night.
Ellison fired right back, saying it's Wardlow who wants to push an extreme right-wing agenda after he was caught on tape at a Republican fundraiser saying he wants to fire 42 Democratic attorneys if he's elected.

"He also said he's going to use the office to change the complexion of the state for Republicans," Ellison said. "Time after time after time he has been the one accusing me of what he's doing, which is politicizing the office."
Ellison also issued another denial to domestic abuse accusations from a former girlfriend that have dogged his campaign.
"I can assure you the behavior described I never engaged in," he said, while assuring the audience there is no video of any abuse as alleged by his former girlfriend.
Wardlow said it's a legitimate issue for voters to consider.
"There are serious and troubling allegations of domestic violence that have been leveled against Mr. Ellison," Wardlow said.
