At Issue: June 30 Klobuchar appears in the presidential debate, Omar under scrutiny

Senator Amy Klobuchar Takes the Stage

Last Wednesday, Minnesota Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar took the stage in Miami, for the first night of the Democratic presidential debates. While she did not get an excess of air time, Klobuchar did get a chance to criticize President Donald Trump, who claimed he would reduce prescription drug prices. She also criticized the president for seeming to constantly have America on the verge of war.

Working to Get Rid of Student Debt

Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar and Vermont Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders introduced legislation to cut $1.6 Trillion of student loan debt for about 45,000,000 people. They are proposing to pay for the plan with a new tax on Wall Street transactions.

Ilhan Omar Investigation

Minnesota State Representative Steve Drazkowski wants fellow Representative Angie Craig, to initiate an ethics investigation over allegations of federal and state offenses by Ilhan Omar. Drazkowski also wants Craig to remove Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee and remove her security clearances. Congresswoman Omar’s team, meanwhile, says in part: “Ilhan has been the subject of conspiracy theories and false accusations about her personal life”.

St. Louis Park Pledge of Allegiance Reconsideration

The St. Louis Park City Council is set to reconsider a decision to no longer recite the Pledge of Allegiance before their meetings. A resolution was passed during June 17th’s city council meeting, but two members were not present for the vote. The resolution was set to begin during their July 15th meeting, but after criticism from the community and planned protests by veterans groups, the decision will be reconsidered at the July 8th meeting.
