Wrong-Way Driver Causes Mendota Heights Crash

Traffic cameras showed a wrong-way driver colliding with another vehicle on a ramp between Interstate 35E and Interstate 494 in Mendota Heights early Sunday morning. 

The driver was traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-35E before the crash.

Information on the drivers' conditions was not immediately available, but the head-on collision appeared to cause extensive damage to the vehicles. 

The wrong-way driver eluded oncoming traffic for several minutes before hitting the other car as it entered westbound I-494. 

Glass and debris surrounded the scene as police, firefighters and towing services responded to the crash. 

The westbound lanes of I-494 near Dodd Road were closed for about an hour after the collision, but they reopened just before 6 a.m.
