Some stores have completely run out of salt and others are having a tough time keeping it on the shelves.

In the last week, Frattallone's Ace Hardware stores have sold as much salt as they do in an entire year. It has some salt on the shelves. The company is having salt shipped in from around the country, but because of snowy roads trucks are having a tough time getting here.

"That's the last thing a retailer wants to see-- a big empty void on his counters," Ace Hardware Manager Kent Eernisse said. "It's our goal to stay in stock on every item as possible and unfortunately we're waiting again, but hey we're hoping it will show up in the next day or two."

KSTP checked in with the Minnesota Department of Transportation on their salt situation. MnDOT officials told us so far this winter they're in good shape with road salt.
