The material was scheduled to be made public last summer after a conviction in the decades-old case. The release was delayed when the Wetterling family filed a lawsuit requesting the information concerning their family is kept private.

Advocates for transparency, including KSTP, asked to intervene in support of Minnesota law that states closed investigations are considered public information.

The Wetterlings had 60 days to appeal the ruling.
