Vehicle crashes after brief police chase in Minneapolis

Police in Minneapolis say a vehicle that had led authorities on a brief chase Monday afternoon ended up crashing at University Avenue NE and 17th Avenue NE.

A police spokesperson said officers observed the vehicle driving erratically. But they soon lost sight of it and terminated the pursuit.

Around one minute later,  the vehicle crashed into another vehicle, which was then knocked into a pickup truck.

"I will emphasize that police were not pursuing that vehicle. We didn't even have a sign of the vehicle at the time of the crash," said John Elder, spokesman for the Minneapolis Police Department.

Elder said two of the three people in the suspect vehicle were taken into custody. A third person tried to flee on foot but was later taken into custody.

Three people in the vehicle were injured. A total of six people were injured in all. All of the injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
