U of M debuts 2018 Winter Light Show

A dazzling light show designed by students at the University of Minnesota premiered Friday night.

The College of Science and Engineering Winter Light Show is also set to music written and recorded by University of Minnesota students.


Lights surround the semicircular Civil Engineering courtyard. The show also features a 22-foot lit tree, two 3D snowmen signs, 8-foot lit arches and more.

Students estimate the display uses more than 5 miles of lights and extension cords.

This is the eighth year of the show. You can see the show at 5:30. 6 and 6:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Saturday, Dec. 1
  • Thursday, Dec. 6
  • Friday, Dec. 7
  • Saturday, Dec. 8
