The woman expected to be named the next president at the University of Minnesota started touring campuses and meeting students Monday.

Joan Gabel took part in a public forum at the Twin Cities campus.

Students and community members asked Gabel about everything from having more diversity on campus to her management style.

"You surround yourself with really smart people who balance each other well, balance you well, care about the institution and then you let them do their job," Gabel said

Gabel is currently the Provost at the University of South Carolina.

More from KSTP:

Gabel will have a public interview with the Board of Regents Friday after she visits all five University of Minnesota campuses.

If hired, Gabel would be the first woman to lead the University of Minnesota.

Gabel would take over for Eric Kaler July 1.
