A Twin Cities animal rescue just took in a record number of puppies, after a shelter in Texas had to get cleared out.

"Typically we'll see a litter, maybe two, sometimes three, so having them send the information of more than 50 puppies was like, wow!" said Camille Bates, with Midwest Animal Rescue and Services. "This is the most puppies we've ever gotten."

The Brooklyn Park non-profit got a call from the Animal Humane Society on Tuesday. Bates said they were able to find enough families in Minnesota to foster the puppies by the time they arrived on Saturday.

"Honestly, it makes me a little emotional," Bates said. "There's really no words to describe it. It was beautiful to see."

Volunteers in various cities between Texas and Minnesota took part in a relay of sorts, signing up to drive different legs of the trip to get the puppies to the Twin Cities.

"It really takes a community to come together and when a community comes together, we can accomplish amazing things," said Bates.

All of the puppies are still available for adoption as of Monday. Bates said there are a variety of breeds, including Labrador Retrievers, Huskies and German Shepherds.
