An Eden Prairie skating coach accused of sexually abusing a teen figure skater made his first appearance in court on Friday.

Forty-seven-year-old Thomas Incantalupo has been charged with five counts of criminal sexual conduct. Prosecutors say he abused a figure skater for at least two years starting when she was 14-years old.

A Hennepin County judge set bail at $750,000. Prosecutors argued Incantalupo needs to stay behind bars because he's "a threat to public safety".

According to the criminal complaint, the abuse started in 2015 when Incantalupo coached for the Eden Prairie Figure Skating Club. The club has since revoked his coaching privileges.

Hennepin County prosecutors say Incantalupo engaged in dozens of sex acts with the teen in hotels and other skater's homes. Prosecutors say at one point, Incantalupo believed he got the teen pregnant and took her to a clinic where nurses gave her a pill.

Just this month, authorities say the teen told a friend about the sexual behavior. Investigators worked with the teen who met Incantalupo wearing a recording device as he discussed their relationship.

The criminal complaint states Incantalupo was recorded saying he knew the relationship was wrong and he could go to jail for it.

Incantalupo also coached for the Braemar City of Lakes Figure Skating Club in Edina. His last day there was July 1, 2017. The board said in a statement "we want to assure our parents and skaters that we make safety and protection of our skaters number priority."

The Eden Prairie Police Department does not know of any additional victims.

Incantalupo's attorney and some of his friends and family members were in court on Friday, but declined to comment.

Incantalupo is due back in court on Feb. 15.
