Authorities have taken a suspect into custody after a fatal hit-and-run in Blaine Wednesday night.

According to the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, authorities responded to a report of an incident on 109th Avenue at about 9:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, authorities said they found a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. The driver had left the scene by the time authorities arrived, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities administered aid and the pedestrian was taken to Mercy Hospital, where the individual was later pronounced dead. The victim was later identified as 58-year-old Kenneth Alan Niesen.

The Anoka County Sheriff's Office says the incident didn't involve any Target shoppers, but there was some sort of gathering in the parking lot beforehand.

The suspect was found and taken into custody, the sheriff's office reported. The Anoka County Sheriff's Office identified the suspect as 30-year-old Pierre Jerel Anderson of St. Paul.

Anderson has not yet been charged in connection to the incident, which remains under investigation.

The following statement was issued Thursday on behalf of Niesen's family:

"Ken was the most wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and friend to everyone he met.  Words cannot express our grief. Our family asks for privacy as we mourn this tragic loss."
