The Lawyers Professional Board or Responsibility has filed a petition seeking the "disbarment, or suspension" of a Twin Cities attorney.
The petition, filed with the Minnesota Supreme Court, says attorney Paul Hansmeier misled people his firm sued over copyright infringement cases.
The petition says, in part, Hansmeier's firm would "troll Internet sites" looking for Internet protocol (IP) addresses that had downloaded films, or videos, from pornography sites.
The petition also claims that Hansmeier's law firm would then mislead the people they were suing about evidence they had collected and provide misinformation to encourage cash settlements quickly.
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS reached Hansmeier by phone.
"I have to read what the petition says before I give an interview and I intend to defend myself against false accusations," Hansmeier said.
Hansmeier also reportedly turned to filing what some call "nuisance lawsuits" against small businesses that allegedly fail to comply with disability access laws.
