The hailstorm that hit Watertown and Delano Monday afternoon was described by area residents as super-sized.

One family who lives near Hickory Curve in Watertown also called it "super scary."

"It was outright madness, insane for 10 minutes straight," Brittney Kohman said.

Kohman was home with her two young children during the bombardment.

"I thought the windows would shatter," she said. "I almost took the kids and went down into the basement. I was terrified."

Kohman was still on the verge of tears when she stepped outside after the storm passed and realized the magnitude of damage done to her family's brand new home.  They only moved in a few months ago, and now the roof and siding will have to be replaced.

The hailstorm came in two rounds, one right after the other and hammered away at Tony Fritzke's homes on Bur Oak Lane.

"Kids were screaming, dogs were barking, I was screaming," Fritzke said.

The frozen ice chunks fell hard and fast, yet spared Fritzke's home from major damage.  However, windows at other nearby houses became casualties of the constant hail in the Carver County community.

Across town at the Hilltop Apartment Complex, giant balls of ice pelted vehicles in the parking lot, including Linda Stepinski's car.

"There's hail damage on the roof, the door, the front is dented," she said. "I am retired I can't afford another car."

City crews in Watertown took to the streets to start clearing storm debris.  Over in Delano, a local employee took a photo of a giant chunk of hail that measured 4 inches in diameter.

As residents documented damage to their homes, so did contractors like Chad Bateson with Heartland Roofing.

"Homeowners want to make sure your house integrity is secure, you don't want to cause further damage and have open access points," he said.

The Watertown fire chief said there was plenty of property damage reports but no reports of injuries.
