Street name change causing mail problems around Bde Maka Ska

Updated: December 02, 2019 06:11 PM

Some who live along Bde Maka Ska, also known as Lake Calhoun, say they're having trouble getting mail.

They say the problems started when the city changed the name of the street around the lake.

In October, workers put up new Bde Maka Ska Parkway signs, replacing West Calhoun Parkway.

Neighbor Delores Brooks says she started not getting as much mail.

"It became a nightmare for all of us," Brooks said. "We have to blame somebody."

In a statement, Kristy L. Anderson, with the U.S. Postal Service, said:

"I have confirmed with our Address Management Systems Department that both the old and new addresses are tied together with no expiration date. This means that mail received with either street name will get delivered.

I have also confirmed with the delivery unit and regular carrier that they are unaware of any delivery issues and have not returned any mail bearing either version of the address."

Neighbors also say because the street name change isn't on GPS, some are having trouble getting pizza deliveries and Amazon packages.
