The sheriff's office responded to the 7300 block of Highway 95 Northeast around 12:15 p.m. on a report of a man with a firearm intending to harm himself or others.

Authorities attempted to contact the man, who was inside a residence, but those attempts were unsuccessful. Authorities entered the home and found the man dead, with evidence suggesting he shot himself.

The man has not been identified.

Highway 95 was closed during the standoff, and nearby residents were evacuated. The highway has since reopened and residents have been allowed back into their homes.

A reportedly armed man has prompted authorities to close a highway and evacuate the area in central Minnesota.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to stay away from the area of Highway 95 and County Road 25, about 12 miles east of St. Cloud.
