VIDEO: Staff member assaulted at Armstrong High School, police investigating

Updated: November 20, 2019 10:08 PM

The Robbinsdale School District along with Plymouth Police Department has launched separate investigations into an altercation involving a staff member and student on Wednesday during the school day at Armstrong High School.

At this time, officers are conducting interviews and reviewing video of the incident recorded by another student and shared on social media. KSTP obtained Snapchat video of the incident.

Sources said the ninth-grade male student had just returned to school after being suspended for a previous physical altercation.  Wednesday was his first day back. Sources identified the employee as John Jacobs, an educational assistant, who serves as a hall monitor and oversees student and staff safety in the parking lot.

Armstrong High School Principal Erick D. Norby issued the following email out to parents and staff, regarding the incident:

"Dear Armstrong families and staff,

A physical altercation between a student and staff member occurred today. This incident was recorded by another student and posted to social media. Upon being notified, building administration, along with district officials, immediately began an investigation. Upon conclusion of the investigation, we will follow appropriate district policies.

Please continue to speak with your student about making good choices and engaging in appropriate social media use. Thank you for continuing to support our efforts to ensure a safe and supportive school environment.

If you have any questions, please contact Armstrong High School at 763-504-8800.
