Authorities are searching for the driver of a stolen vehicle who drove at an officer during a traffic stop early Tuesday morning.

According to the St. Paul Police Department, at about 2 a.m., officers stopped a suspect vehicle in an alley near the intersection of Winter Street and Capitol Boulevard North.

During the traffic stop, the driver drove the vehicle at one of the officers while attempting to leave the scene. Another officer fired at the vehicle, the department reported.

The officer toward whom the suspect drove suffered minor injuries.

Both officers were wearing body worn cameras.

Just after the traffic stop, officers found the stolen vehicle on the 700 block of Prior Avenue. The vehicle was unoccupied and authorities are searching for the driver.

The department reported, as per policy, both officers involved in the traffic stop will be placed on standard paid leave while the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigates the incident.

The BCA is expected to release additional information as it is available.
