A 27-year-old St. Paul man is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting March 27 in downtown Minneapolis.

Jermaine McMahon is in custody. He is charged with the shooting death of 28-year-old Justin Williams.

The shooting took place about 6:30 a.m. when a police officer working off-duty security in the area of 10th Street and Currie Avenue heard gunshots. He found Williams with multiple gunshot wounds in front of a parking ramp on 10th Street.

Williams was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where he later died.

The suspect fled the scene. Police saw the suspect on a surveillance video and matched him to a man who bought a light rail ticket. The suspect wore a dark colored, hooded jacket, black ski mask and dark pants and white shoes, a complaint in Hennepin County Court said.

Witnesses said the suspect walked up to the victim, pointed a gun, shot five or six times and fled on a bike. Police found a ski mask on the Cedar bike trail.

McMahon was arrested in a St. Paul homeless shelter Saturday. The DNA on the mask was matched to McMahon, the complaint said.
