After two children were assaulted this month, St. Paul police held a community meeting Thursday on child safety.

Two children have been assaulted this month. On May 2, a 5-year-old girl waiting at her bus stop was found with her pants and underwear down to her ankles. No suspect has been arrested.

On May 6, a 7-year-old girl was taken from 305 Dayton Ave. She was assaulted. Police found her about a block a way in the apartment of the suspect. Mark Scott Meihofer has been charged in Ramsey County District Court.

Officers from St. Paul Police Department's western district talked about the assaults, provide safety tips for children and parents and answer questions.

Some who attended Thursday's event were mad at Catholic Charities which runs the Saint Christopher Place where Meihofer lived.

According to the criminal complaint, police went to Saint Christopher's to ask if anyone had seen a girl matching her description.

One employee did saying a man carried her into the building.

Catholic Charities' CEO said they'll have to pay better attention when someone brings in a child.
