As of next month, city councilors in St. Louis Park will no longer recite the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of their meetings.

Councilors passed the resolution 5-0 during their meeting last week.

St. Louis Park council member Tim Brausen said there was a concern that reciting the pledge intimidates some newer residents within a climate of political polarization and the controversy over federal immigration policies.

The measure takes effect July 15.
