Authorities seized five pounds of heroin and arrested three people after a six-month investigation across three metro counties.

The Southwest Metro Drug Task Force said its officers served warrants in Hennepin, Ramsey and Carver counties following the investigation, leading to the seizure of the heroin, which has a street value of more than $200,000.

The task force said the five-pound seizure is equivalent to one-fifth of the total amount seized last year by statewide drug task force teams.

In addition to the heroin seizure, the task force also seized $11,500 in drug proceeds and forfeited five vehicles related to the search warrants. The investigation also led to the arrest of three suspects on Oct. 21 and resulted in two other people being charged for drug-related crimes, the task force said.
