A metro family buried its beloved father and grandfather in Burnsville Thursday afternoon. Minneapolis Police said the man was brutally attacked after he stepped off a metro bus.

Shirwa Hassan Jibril, 75, died earlier this week from injuries he suffered last week in the attack.

Leroy Davante Davis-Miles, 23, of Minneapolis was charged in Hennepin County with second-degree murder in the case.

"Beaten up at 75 years old ... you know? For no reason,” said Jibril's son, Maslah Adam. “My dad was a great man. He was a community helper, he absolutely was a great man."

Investigators said Jibril asked Davis-Miles and some other people to quiet down while on the bus last week.

When the 75-year-old got off at his stop in the 2900 block of Chicago, the men followed, according to police.

As Jibril walked away, he was punched by Davis-Miles, causing him to fall and hit his head, court papers allege.

Adam said his father was like "clockwork" riding the bus from his apartment to the Karmal Mall in south Minneapolis to help other Somali seniors translate English and fill out forms they might have.

"He was a great educated guy,” said Adam. “He will be missed. Not only will family miss him, but the whole community will miss him."

Court documents state security video captured Davis-Miles and one of his associates shake hands in a congratulatory manner as Jibril remained motionless on the ground after being punched.

Minneapolis Police said facial recognition software was used from security camera video to make the first arrest.

“The Minneapolis Police Department anticipates additional arrests in this case,” said spokesperson John Elder.
