This Thanksgiving, many college students in Minnesota made the difficult decision to spend the holiday on campus rather than risk traveling home.

University of Minnesota student Kristin Gill was planning to head home to Chicago to spend Thanksgiving with her mother, but the pandemic changed that.

"At the end of the day we decided it’s not worth it," Kristin said.

Gill’s mother bought thanksgiving dinners from a local restaurant for Kristin and her friends.

"It’s very different," Sarah Gill said. "It’s quiet for sure and a little bit sad. We’ll get together as soon as we can. We’ll just sit tight."
