So Minnesota: U of M's hidden gem 'The Dairy & Meat Salesroom'

Updated: December 13, 2019 06:51 PM

It's been around for decades, but it's not very well known.

A small store on the Twin Cities campus is only open a few hours a week, selling home made tasty treats.

The University of Minnesota Dairy and Meat Salesroom is located in the basement of the Food, Science, and Nutrition Building on the St. Paul Campus.

It's only open Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The store has been opened since the 1960's. All the cheese, meat, and ice cream is made on campus.

"They call me 'the Cheese Lady,'" Jodi Nelson, who runs the store, said. "It is kind of a hidden place. It's pretty unique and special place."

Katie Grove was first customer in line when the doors opened.

"This is a little gem in the neighborhood," Grove said.

All sales from the store go to back into the University of Minnesota.
