So Minnesota: Cafe's 'Customer Wall of Fame'

Updated: July 12, 2019 06:53 PM

There are many small restaurants across our state that serve up good food and friendly service.

One restaurant has put their customers on a pedestal by putting them on the wall.

Peg's Countryside Cafe in Hamel has a "Wall of Fame" with pictures of about 1,000 customers.

The wall started more than 30 years ago after actor Mickey Rooney stopped in the restaurant.

The owner at the time, Peg Rasmussen, put a picture of Rooney up on the wall.

"Then some of my long time customers came in and said, 'well, you know, how about my picture?'" Rasmussen said. "So I started taking pictures of the regulars."

The restaurant has run out of space and rarely puts up new pictures nowadays, but they never take down the old ones.

"I have a hard time looking at them because I get lost in memories," Rasmussen said.

If you want to check out the Wall of Fame, Peg's Countryside Cafe is located on Highway 55 in Hamel.
