The Goodhue County Sheriff's Department says a 61-year-old snowmobiler went through the ice on Lake Pepin Friday afternoon.

A release said dispatch received a call just after 2 p.m. about a snowmobiler who had gone through the ice off Long Point near Frontenac State Park in Florence Township.

The male was located halfway between the beach and the navigation channel, about 100 yards from the point. Witnesses reported his head and shoulders remained above water.

The sheriff's office and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers responded to the area with two airboats.

The man was still holding onto the ice and was semiconscious when he was pulled into the boat. He was the airlifted to seek medical attention.
