RAW: Sexual Assault Survivor Reflects on Jacob Wetterling's Disappearance

October 19, 2018 03:05 PM

Jared Scheierl, a Minnesota man whose own sexual assault as a 12-year-old was long suspected to be connected to Jacob Wetterling's disappearance, spoke during a news conference Tuesday.

Scheierl talked publicly about his case in hopes it could help investigators find his attacker and Jacob's.

Using technology that wasn't available in 1989, investigators found 53-year-old Danny Heinrich's DNA on Scheierl's sweatshirt, and used that evidence to get a search warrant for Heinrich's home, where they found a large collection of child pornography.

The statute of limitations had expired for charging Heinrich in the assault on Scheierl, but a grand jury indicted him on 25 child pornography counts.

On Tuesday, Scheierl reflected his own experience and Jacob's abduction.
