Gazelka stated the current estimation is that more than 1,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed in the Twin Cities, costing roughly $500 million.

"This wasn't just about bricks and mortar, people's lives were at risk and crowds were unchecked," Gazelka said. "Who is responsible for allowing that risk to the public?"

Gazelka said the committee would hold hearings to determine accountability. He added information on how many committee members there will be, as well as how many meetings the committee will have, will be released at a later time.
