A search warrant application filed in Hennepin County states an inmate who escaped from the Hennepin County jail called a woman multiple times and asked her to pick him up from a Target in New Brighton.

The warrant was filed a day after Michael Simon escaped the Hennepin County jail and was taken back into custody a short time later.

According to the warrant, Simon escaped the jail around 7 a.m. Wednesday after breaking out a window on the seventh floor and then jumping out on the top of a skyway.

Simon was later found in Little Canada with a 78-year-old woman. The warrant says law enforcement officers learned Simon had called the woman's home phone and asked that she pick him up at a Target. The warrant also says Simon called her cell phone several times.

Once the woman picked Simon up from the Target, they returned to her home, the warrant said.

Simon was taken into custody as he was exiting the Little Canada residence, according to the warrant.

The woman's cell phone was taken into custody by investigators.

The warrant application seeks permission to search for electronic information stored on the phone.
