A search warrant reveals new details in the case of a 7-year-old Plymouth boy who died after accidentally firing a loaded gun last week.

According to the search warrant, a half-full box of .357 ammunition was found in a diaper bag in the residence at which 7-year-old Keyaris Samuels was found with a gunshot wound to the head.

The ammunition was found to be of the same caliber as the handgun found next to Keyaris, the search warrant stated.

During an interview, officers learned that Keyaris's mother denied keeping a gun in her home and said she was unsure how Keyaris had obtained it.

Previously, officers said Keyaris was alone inside his home when he found the loaded gun in a hoverboard box.

Keyaris's mother told officers a friend of hers had visited earlier that day and she said that friend must have placed the gun somewhere in the house, according to the warrant.

Authorities learned that the mother's friend failed to report to a required meeting with his parole officer that same day, and a warrant was subsequently issued for his arrest.

After conducting tests, officers reported multiple people handled the gun the day Keyaris was found dead, the warrant states.

A DNA sample from the mother's friend has been requested and is intended "to be used for comparison to any like evidence obtained from the handgun," the complaint states.

Authorities state the mother's friend is currently in custody. At this time, no one has been charged in this case.

Neighbors in the area expressed shock of the death of the 7-year-old.

"He had friends, he had a community to grow up with," neighbor Brian Arrieta said. "And (what happened), that's just sad."
